J&K: Opposition parties, Social organizations seek fair delimitation and restoration of statehood and early Assembly Elections

Jammu , April 16 :Different political parties and social organizations today jointly condemned the  repeated incidents of targeted killings of innocents in Kashmir Valley  terming it as a dangerous phenomena  and  urged the centre Govt. and the UT administration  to check such attacks on innocents and minorities,  at all costs.

In a joint statement after threadbare discussion over the overall socio -political  and the security situation emerging in Jammu and Kashmir, the senior leaders representing different political parties and social organizations expressed grave concern  over the   increased  targeted attacks on innocents including the members of the minority community and non-local workers in the recent past and regretted that the Govt. has utterly failed to  arrest the situation leading to the atmosphere of fear amongst innocent people including PRIs, minorities and non-locals in the valley.

Expressing deep sympathies with families of those martyred and injured  including the members of the security forces laying their lives and fighting bravely in the difficult situation, the  meeting demanded  fool proof security measures for the  vulnerable sections, as an atmosphere of fear amongst the common people, especially the minorities and outsiders is being created with nefarious designs.

The meeting also expressed grave concern over attempts to create wedge among communities and disturb religious brotherhood and harmony  by various  provocative’s means  like the highly condemnable  incident of vandalism at  Sidhra temple. Demanding immediate action against culprits to expose the conspiracy,  the statement  appealed to the people to rise against  such communal and mischievous  forces  and not to allow peace and harmony to be disturbed at any cost . All  right thinking people  and secular forces should  stand united to defeat  nefarious designs of  divisive and communal forces active in the region.

The meeting also  took strong exceptions to the mode , manner and the procedure  adopted, so far,  by the Delimitation Commission which is , by and large one sided, unilateral and non-transparent , as the draft report has caused  grave injustice and inconvenience to the people in most parts due to non-adherence of different  settled principle  and parameters for the delimitation exercise. The Commission has not bothered to visit different  districts or give a fair and patient hearing to the  genuinely aggrieved people  and areas from its draft report which has created an impression that the Commission would not  be able to do justice  to the people.

They demanded that the Commission should consider all genuine objections and representations  against its draft report which is highly  faulty , illogical and  against the  ground situations, before finalizing its report , as the aggrieved people have no remedy thereafter.

The statement demanded that the Prime Minister should honour the commitment on the floor of the Parliament  regarding restoration of  state hood,  without any further delay,  followed by early Assembly elections to restore democracy in order to give  respite to the people from the non-accountable bureaucratic regime in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting was jointly convened  under the aegis of All Parties United Morcha  and chaired by Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak ( Dogra Sadar Sabha), and attended by the leaders of different political and social organizations like by Sheikh Abdul Rehman (EX-MP),  National Conference  represented- Rattan Lal Gupta (Provincial President),  Congress represented by  Ravinder Sharma (Chief Spokesperson),  IDP – Narinder  Khajuria, ID Khajuria (Convenor- APUM),  CPIM – Comrade Hari Singh, PPI- Comrade Pritam Singh, Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Committee  - Comrade  Sukhdev Singh, United Peace Allience -Shahid Saleem Mir,  Labana Bradari - Sardar Nirmal Singh .
