Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University to undergo Academic Audit

JAMMU, Dec  13: Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, called on Governor N.N. Vohra, Chancellor of the University, at the Raj Bhavan here today.

Prof. Jain briefed the Governor about the Perspective Plan being formulated by the University for taking planned initiatives to promote quality education and research with enhanced focus on usage of ICT, opening of new academic programs and creating first rate infrastructure for developing the University into an institution of excellence. He also informed that the exercise to undertake an Academic Audit, which had been approved by the Governor, had already begun. This Audit aims to critically review the functioning of every department to upgrade the teaching and research programmes while establishing inter-disciplinary linkages.

The Audit Committee comprises Dr. D.P Aggarwal, former Professor of IIT Delhi and Ex Chairman, UPSC; Prof. K.L. Chopra, former Director, IIT Kharagpur and Padma Bushan Awardee; Sh. R. S. Pawar, Chairman and Managing Director, NIIT (former member EC, SMVDU); Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, President, Manipal University, Jaipur; Dr. Satish Kumar, Director, NIT Kurukshetra and Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, who acts as the Convener of the Committee.

Spokesperson of the Raj Bhavan recalled that the Governor had asked the VC, Dr. Sanjeev Jain, as soon as he joined, to bring up a plan for investments being made for enlarging the existing teaching, library and research facilities, alongside the promotion of indoor and outdoor sports and extra-mural activities, besides, maintaining strict discipline in the Campus.

To establish speciality wise bench marks for moving forward Governor Vohra has asked Dr. S. S. Bloeria, former Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, and member of the Shrine Board, to undertake a rapid stock taking exercise to assess the mile-stones already achieved by the University and measure the same against the goals which had been initially set.
