Skilled labour has huge potential in JK: Veeri

ANANTNAG, NOVEMBER, 26: Minister for R&B and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri today distributed cheques worth Rs 46 lakh among 183 beneficiaries of the district during a distribution-cum-awareness camp organised by the Labour Department.         

MLA Kokernag, Abdul Rahim Rather, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Assistant Labour Commissioner, besides members of Labour Unions and workers were present on the occasion.        

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said skilled labour has a big role in development process and a huge potential in J&K. He called upon the construction workers to make best use of their skills not only for earning livelihood but also ensuring quality development works.         

Veeri said the government will redouble its efforts in reinvigorating the pace of development in the State. He stressed for mass awareness of government’s welfare schemes among the people. He directed the Labour Department and Labour Unions to disseminate information about the welfare and related schemes among the remote areas of the district so that people avail the benefits.

Earlier, the Assistant Labour Commissioner gave detailed brief about the laws and schemes implemented by the Department. He said that under Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 2008, an unorganised labourer can avail benefits for educational, marriage, illness and other purposes. He said under J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Act, the Department has distributed Rs 1.65 crore during the current fiscal year.
