R&B department should become more accountable towards the people: Committee


 

JAMMU, NOVERMBER 16: The Committee on Estimates of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today directed the PWD (R&B) authorities to involve local legislatures while framing the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).

The Committee which met here today, under the Chairmanship of MLA, Syed Altaf Ahmad Bukhari discussed and reviewed the Public Works Department (R&B).

Legislators, Mubarak Gul, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Abdul Majeed Padder, Neelam Kumar Langeh, Ishfaq Ahmed Sheikh, Daleep Parihar, Abdul Rashid Dar, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah and Jeevan Lal attended the meeting, and gave suggestions to make department more accountable towards the people.

A threadbare discussion was held on status of all ongoing projects sanctioned, and completed under various centrally sponsored schemes like PMGSY, CRF and NABARD in the State. The meeting also discussed about the funds sanctioned for improvement, upgradation and maintenance of various roads under State and District Sector Plan.

The Committee discussed details regarding macadamization of roads done under various projects in the state during the current year. The meeting was informed that compensation stands paid to the land owners whose land has been acquired for construction of roads and bridges in the State during the last three years.

Members of the Committee also raised developmental issues regarding the projects carried out by the department in their respective constituencies, and stressed for early completion to them.

Commissioner Secretary, PWD (R&B), Rohit Kansal briefed the Committee about the functioning of the department, besides present status of the various projects being executed by the department in the state including roads, bridges, buildings and other developmental projects.

Managing Director, JKPCC, Director, SPD, Chief Engineers, R&B, Kashmir and Jammu, Chief Engineers, PMGSY, Kashmir and Jammu, Chief Engineer, DIQC besides senior officers of R&B and Assembly Secretariat were also present in the meeting.
