JAMMU, Nov 10: The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today said the sports is essential for overall development of the human persona and the State Government has initiated several steps for the upgradation of the sports infra besides holding national and international sports events in JK.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at the concluding function of Ist Sport-thon 2016 organized by KC Sports Club Jammu in which several schools participated.
Dr Singh said the sports activities are an important part of the extracurricular activities and these imbibe in the sportspersons the spirit of competition as well as camaraderie. He said the youth should more actively involve themselves in various sports activities rather than being carried away by other influences which can have disastrous effects on both their physique and intellect. “The youth of the state should not get involved in the drug menace as it is detrimental to both their health and mind. The Government has already initiated several steps for tackling this problem and results are showing on the ground,” he maintained.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the Government has already initiated several flagship programmes in the sports sector which would be augmenting the existing infra besides adding the new ones. He said the State has received a special package in the sports sector which would go a long way in catalyzing the sports activities, besides providing the youth the avenues for honing their talent so that they can participate at national and global level and bring laurels to their area, region and state.
The Deputy Chief Minister later distributed prizes among the winners. KC Public School was the overall winner in different sports activities whereas JK Public School was the runner up.
