Encourage children to participate in sports: Dy CM advises parents

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 5 – Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh today said that sports are most powerful tool to   develop positive approach among youth and advised the parents to empower their children by allowing them to make choices for their future. 

“We have to encourage our young generation and there’s no greater way to do that than through the power of sports.

Deputy Chief Minister was speaking after declaring open the National Karate event ‘Mamoru Miwa Cup 2016’ being organized by J&K Karate do Association at J K Public School Kunjwani.

Deputy Commissioner Jammu Simrandeep Singh and Director Urban & Local Bodies Jammu, Saujanya Sharma were also present on the occasion.

While addressing the participants, Dr Singh said that holistic development of children is the need of hour and sports can help them in gaining confidence and become good human being. Sports also help them in developing positive approach and contribute in the development of the society and nation as a whole, Dr Singh added.

“Sports promote social cohesion and develop positive thinking and behaviour among young people. It promotes healthy lifestyle and well-being. Supporting and promoting sports will go a long way to save young people from indulging in anti- social activities like drugs and substance abuse,” Dr Singh said.

Deputy Chief Minister said that the government is focused on the overall development of the youth for which skill development programmes have been designed especially for them. More is yet to   be done to ensure the personal development of young people so that they may attain economic freedom and contribute to the development of the country.         

Around 450 athletes from across the country are participating in the event which would witness competitions under different age groups.

The inauguration ceremony was marked by scintillating cultural performances by children showcasing folk music and dance of   Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.           

Among others, Chairman J&K Karate do Association Dr Ashok, President J&K Karate do Association Dr Dushyant Choudhary, Principal Army School Ratnuchak Sonal Sharma, Chairman J K Educational Society Raj Daluja, Principal J K Public School Kunjwani S K Singh, teachers, parents and students were present on the occasion.
