Meaningful engagement & dialogue the only way forward: PDP

S. Sidartha Paramedical Training Institute, Sunjwan, Jammu

SRINAGAR, Nov 02: Calling for a meaningful debate on the issues related to education, environment and social ethos, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated that any forward movement is impossible unless the whole society comes together to fight every design which aims at disintegrating and weakening it.“Over the last four months what we have seen is highly unfortunate. On the one hand, the government is trying hard to get the things back to normal and on the other hand there are forces who are hell-bent upon harming the interests of people,” senior party leader Nizamuddin Bhat said while addressing a workers convention at Hazratbal, in Srinagar today. He said a consensus should evolve at the societal level about the issues that have marred us through a design of systematic disempowerment; and economic destabilisation.

These harmful and dangerous designs, he said, have to be scuttled firmly and should be separated from the political discourse of Jammu and Kashmir.“Burning of schools, damage to other vital infrastructure, looting of forests, and encroachment on water bodies during this period of strife, is but a manifestation of their destructive course which they are carrying forward at the peril of the society and the people at large. This if allowed to go unchallenged will have disastrous repercussions for our future,” he added. In her address Minister of State for Social Welfare and MLA Hazratbal. Ms Asiya Naqash expressed hope that peace will return soon through various endeavours including the resolution of all issues and the dreams of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed will hopefully become possible.

She said the government will remain totally focused on the development of summer capital and various initiatives are being undertaken to restore the past glory of the city back, which has faced lot of neglect in the past.“We are working to ensure proper sewerage and drainage network, restoration of encroached public spaces and improving inter-city road connectivity in Srinagar,”, she added.Speaking on the occasion, MLC and District President Srinagar, Mohammed Khurshed Alam espoused the dream of late Mufti Mohammed Sayeed for the development of Srinagar city. He said Srinagar city being the epicentre of economic activities, upward social mobilisation, and engine of cultural reinvigoration will get a focused attention from the incumbent government.“Mufti Sahab would always term Srinagar as the heart of J&K and worked to give this historic city a new outlook. Endeavours of turning Srinagar into a smart city are afoot,” he added.
