LEH, Oct 04: Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli, today inaugurated a fish farm at Chuchot Shamma, Leh in presence of Minister for Ladakh Affairs & Cooperative Tsering Dorjey and MLA Leh Nawang Rigzin Jora.
Funded by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) under its Environment Management Plan, the farm is being built at a cost of Rs. 1.18 crore.
On the occasion, Mr. Kohli expressed hope that the farm will help in employing many locals and said the project has the potential of immediate returns.
Minister for Ladakh Affairs and MLA Leh said that supply of this kind of fish would be highly beneficial from tourist point of view as it is generally difficult to import them due to their short shell life.
They requested the NHPC to build similar farms in other parts of the district for the benefit of people and to give a boost to the tourism sector.
Executive Councilors, nominated Councilor Saida Bano, Joint Director Fisheries, Assistant Director Fisheries, and heads of various Government Departments, besides a large number of locals were also present on the occasion.
