
JAMMU, Feb 11: Lieutenant Governor Jammu and Kashmir , Manoj Sinha will inaugurate General Bus Stand cum Multi-level car parking today.
The project has costed Rs 213 crore and has parking capacity of 80 Buses, 1312 cars and 177 Two wheelers and there dedicated space for Restaurants and Food courts.
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and senior BJP Leader Nirmal Singh , Comm/Sec Housing Dheeraj Gupta, then VCs JDA Mubarak Singh, Rajesh Shavan and Vikas Sharma played key role.
One Official of Housing department J&K told Cross Town News that when Mufti Mohd Sayeed was Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Nirmal Singh persuaded the CM Mufti to go with the project especially when Mufti was not keen.
Offical said the foundation stone was laid earlier , but nothing happened for years, it was during tenure of Nirmal Singh as incharge of Housing Ministry things peaked up.
There were number of meetings on this and then Deputy CM Nirmal Singh , who was holding charge of Housing Ministry , while visiting to the spot , in Mufti's car , said we will go on with the project and it will count as pride of Jammu in coming years and Mufti was bit reluctanty initially , announced the project at spot.
Offical under condition of anonymity further told Cross Town News that , then VCs of Jammu devlopment Authority , Mubarak Singh and Rajesh Shavan played key role in shifting Shopkeeprs to other location, which was not an easy job , whereas Vikas Sharma played role in keeping progress smooth and then Dy CM Nirmal Singh was frequent visitor to spot to see the work done or for that matter taking up issues with contractor Shapoor ji Pallonji.
Commissioner Secretary Dheeraj Gupta took Project to final stage and this project will help in immense way in reducing parking issues.
