Kohli reviews availability of animals, poultry birds for Eid-ul-Azha

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 3: In view of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, Minister for Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Mr Abdul Gani Kohli today chaired a joint meeting of officers to take stock of availability of sacrificial animals, poultry birds and fish.

Directing the concerned for ensuring availability of adequate stock of sacrificial animals, poultry birds and fish in the market for the convenience of people, the Minster also directed to conduct regular checking in the market to make sure that people are getting sacrificial animals, poultry birds and fish at government approved rates.

 The Minister directed the concerned for facilitating the local breeders in selling their animals so that they could get suitable prices of their products.

The meeting was informed that adequate stock of sacrificial animals will be made available on the spots identified by the government, of which 2.40 lakh sacrificial animals are available with local breeders.  The meeting was informed that teams of doctors will be available at these spots to make sure that consumers are buying disease free animals.

 The meeting was informed that the government and private poultry farms have sufficient stock of poultry birds to meet the requirement on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha.

The meeting was informed that there is sufficient stock of fish in the fish farms in Valley, adding that the department has sold 22 Qtls of fish to the general public during last two months in Kashmir Valley.

Secretary, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Director, Animal Husbandry, Kashmir, Director, Fisheries and other senior officers attended the meeting.
