Jammu: General secretary, Congress, J&K Shahnawaz choudhary, today addressed the media in surankote and lambasted the Deputy commissioner poonch and distt. administration for irrational decisions. While speaking he said, that the commercial vehicles carrying people from different villages of surankote are being stopped around 2- 3 kms away from surankote town and the poor people, aged persons, ladies and children are being compelled to walk on foot for this long distance at both sides of the town. He demanded that the administration should keep some vehicles which may run in this area of town so that people can reach out to the hospital, tehsil and other parts of the town. He further questions the move to restrict the timing of market from 8am to 3 pm, he expressed concerns over the probable congestion and overcrowding of places due to the irrational time bar put in place by the district administration which he said will only increase the risk of virus spread demanding the administration to review this decision. Shahnawaz also pressed upon the district administration to fulfill their promises to those involved in MGNREGA scheme work, prior to lockdown he said that such workers were told by the district administration that their pays will be released once the situation becomes conducive however the administration now totally denies it leaving a large proportion of poor populace at the risk of hunger and deprivation, he demanded that the money which the administration owes to them should be released as soon as possible so as to ensure the sustenance of poor people dependent on MGNREGA scheme.
Shahnawaz further criticised the administration for creating confusion over people entering the distt poonch from outside saying that administration hasn't specified the procedure involving the persons coming from outside he said that it should be specified clearly that whether the people having negative covid19 reports would be sent to administrative quarantine or home quarantine. Accusing the administration for creating confusion and chaos he demanded that SOPs related to Covid19 should be followed however people should be informed with clear specifications and peculiarities about the process of quarantine so as inconvenience may be avoided. Shahnawaz warned the administration to take timely action on the issues raised by him else they would be left with no option but to hit the streets and protest against the irresponsible attitude of the district administration.
