Div Com honours Gandhi Mandela Cricket Series Runners up team


JAMMU, JUNE 22- Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal today honoured Runners up team of Gandhi Mandela Cricket Series (Under 16) for special children of J&K State.

While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kotwal congratulated the team and said that main objective of such tournament is to encourage and bring special children in the main stream. He applauded Gandhi Global Family and its volunteers for their remarkable job in reaching to the special children of the society.

Divisional Commissioner also gave certificates to the children on the occasion namely Mohammad Rafi (Captain), Ravinder Singh, Ravinder Kumar, Shubham Thappa, Vikas Kumar, Vinay Kumar, Manoj Kumar,Nazir Hussain, Sheikh Aayan, Adil Azad Ganai, Sandeep Kumar, Mohammad Atif and others.

Dr. Kotwal further appreciated the President Gandhi Global Family J&K S. P. Varma for his endeavour to organize   such tournament for orphan children of J&K State. 

The runners team from the state was selected from the 48 participating teams of the state that took part in UN-GGF Peace Trophy 2015 that was jointly organized by United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) New Delhi and Gandhi Global Family (J&K). The tournament entirely focused upon the participation of the orphans (militancy affected children) thus pulling them out of the trauma of feeling neglected and disadvantaged.

S P Varma in his address said that the tournament fulfils its objective of boosting self confidence of children and creating awareness among them about the possibilities of career development in sports.

Major Gen G. S. Jamwal, Retd Wg Cdr M. M. Joshi, Convener INTACH Jammu Chapter S. M. Sahni, Environmentalist Dr. C. M. Seth, President Vichar Kranti Manch S. K. Jain, G. N. Tantray, and various other dignitaries also spoke on the occasion.
