CSDs liable to pay tax under J&K GST Act 1962: Haseeb Drabu


 

JAMMU, June 16: Minister for Finance, Culture and Labour & Employment, Dr. Haseeb A Drabu today, replying to a question of Vikramaditya Singh, informed that Canteen Stores Departments (CSD) are liable to pay tax at the rates specified under J&K General Sales Tax Act 1962.

The Minister informed that CSDs are registered with the Commercial Taxes Department under J&K VAT Act, 2005 and J&K GST Act, 1962 as ‘dealers’ and are liable to pay taxes at the rates specified.

Giving details, the Minister said their rate of Tax is 2 percent against C-form under J&K Central Sales Tax Act, 1956 and 5 percent as per Schedule C and 13.5 percent as per Schedule D-1 under J&K VAT Act, 2005.

Dr. Drabu said there are no provisions under the J&K VAT Act, 2005 and Rules where exemption to any class of dealers can be considered.  He said the matter regarding the deviation made by other states has already been brought to the notice of the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers.
