31st Road Safety Week-2020 from today: Owais Ahmed


Jammu, Jan 10: Transport Commissioner J&K, Dr. Owais Ahmed on Friday informed that 31st Road Safety Week-2020 is commencing from January 11.

The Transport Commissioner said that the Road Safety Week-2020 will start with a walkathon from Gulshan Ground to Rotary Club Gandhi Nagar, which will be flagged off by the Advisor to the Lt Governor.

All the stakeholders including, school children, driving institutes, transport associations, Police, SRTC, Civil Defence, NCC, NYK etc. will also participate in the walkathon.

“On 12th January, road safety awareness cum health check-up camp will be organised at Railway Station by Health & Ayurvedic Department and Red Cross Society for drivers and conductors,” he said. On 13th January, NCC volunteers along with officers of MVD, Traffic and LMD will distribute pamphlets on road safety, conduct Gift a rose to traffic violators’ campaign and also sensitise auto drivers about usage of meters at different Chowks of Jammu city. Similarly, on 14th January, painting cum poster competition will be organised at Wave Mall in which students from various schools and colleges will participate where as on 15th January women’s two-wheeler rally will be flagged off from Jammu University.

Blood Donation Camp and Street Plays regarding road safety will also be organized in different parts of the city. On 16th January, symposium on road safety will be organized at Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium Jammu University in which students from various schools and colleges will participate. On the last day of the Road Safety Week, a valedictory function will be organized in Police Auditorium in which cultural items, skits on road safety theme, speeches by experts and prize distribution will be the key features of the event.

Transport Commissioner appealed to the people of Jammu to be cautious while on road and take all safety precautions like wearing of seat-belts, helmets besides following traffic rules, etc.
