Govt to approach Centre for approval of Indoor stadia for left-out districts: Dy CM; 12 indoor sports halls coming up in 9 districts: Sunil Kumar

SRINAGAR, June 09:Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today said that Government would formulate a comprehensive policy for development of sports infrastructure especially in left out areas of the State.

Intervening during Question Hour, the Deputy Chief Minister said that Government also intends to establish indoor stadia in all left-out districts of the State. He said that in this regard a Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be formulated and submitted to the concerned Union Ministry for approval of funds.

Meanwhile the Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports, Mr Sunil Kumar in reply to the main question of Mr Shakti Raj Parihar, said that 12 indoor sports halls are to be constructed in 9 districts including Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Baramulla, Kupwara, Budgam, Leh, Kargil, Samba, Kuthua and Rajouri.

The Minister said that under PM’s Package, the Union Ministry of Youth Services and Sports has granted sanction for 12 indoor halls only. He said that the criteria adopted for selection of the districts by and large are on the basis of non-availability of indoor halls in these areas.

He said tenders for the construction of indoor sports halls at Tral and Handwara have been floated, while as for Samba and Bilawar tenders are being finalized. He said for the construction of indoor sports hall at Kateranka, the trending process has been initiated.

The Minister said that presently there was no proposal for construction of indoor stadium at Doda. He said that however the outdoor sports stadium at Doda is under construction at an estimated cost of Rs 4.73 core and against which Rs 3.29 crore have been incurred.

The Minister further said that a proposal Rehbar-e-Khail has been formulated along with creation of posts for Physical Education Teachers. He said that the proposal was submitted to the Finance Department whichhas made some observations. He said that the matter is under examination in the Department.

Mr Satpal Sharma, Mr GM Saroori, Mr Pawan Gupta, Mr Rajeev Jasrotia, Mr Ajaz Ahamad Mir and Mr Dina Nath Bhagat raised supplementaries and demanded construction of Indoor stadia besides completion of ongoing sports works in their respective constituencies.
