IUST celebrates National Technology Day; Technology touches each, every facet of our lives: Mir Zahoor

SRINAGAR, MAY 11: To commemorate achievements of Innovation and Technology in the country, National Technology Day was celebrated at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora today.

Minister of State for Forest, Ecology & Environment, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Cooperative and Fisheries Mir Zahoor Ahmad was the Chief Guest while as Minister of State for Hajj & Auquf, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Power, Industries and Commerce Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi attended the function.

Speaking in the inaugural session, Mir Zahoor urged that teachers must ensure setting clear goals otherwise technology can be misused. He said teachers also need to be trained and this education must be on-going. He stated technology touches each and every facet of our lives. He further said that be it searching answers to complex problems, or facilitating the lives of the sick and disabled, technology has magnificently enhanced the quality of life and also boosted the economy of the world.

The Minister announced Rs 5 lakh out of his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for development of the University. He also assured to the Management that every possible help will be provided by the Government for sustainable development of the University. He directed the R& B department to macadamize the inner link roads of the Campus immediately.

In his address, Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi said that Modern technology can be considered a direct consequence of the innovations and studies in the fields of science and engineering. There is no doubt that technology has greatly influenced modern society and lifestyles. While most of these influences have been positive, there are few negative ones and the need of hour is to work together to minimize the negative influences.

Recalling the contribution of former Chief Minister Late Mufti Mohammad Sayed towards sustainable development of the State, the Minister further said that he was a visionary leader who  contributed a lot setting up IUST, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, North and South Campuses of Kashmir University , construction of flyover,  development of Eidgah and Badamwari, Mughal road, Sinthan-Kishtwar road and dozens of Development Authorities.  He said the present Government is committed for providing good-governance, quality education and better health medicare facilities to the people at their door steps.

Syed Andrabi announced Rs 5 lakh out of CDF for development of the university.          

While addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor-IUST Prof A R Trag highlighted the achievements made by the University in its short life span in the field of science and technology. He said that owing to the application of technology, our standard of living has increased. Our needs are met with greater ease. Technology has brought advancements in every field, due to which the outputs have increased.         

During the technical session, eminent subject experts Prof. Rajendra Bahl, Professor, CARE IIT Delhi and Prof. G.M. Bhat Dean, Faculty of AS&T, University of Kashmir delivered lectures on Technology and Innovation which were followed by lab visits to different departments of the School of Technology, IUST.         

Earlier, Dean School of Technology, Prof. K.K.S. Jamwal welcomed the guest and participants of the event .

Later the VC briefed the Ministers through power point presentation about the activities of the University. He informed that the University is publishing one International journal on Spirituality.

Earlier, the Ministers went round the different departments of the University and took stock of the facilities available there.

The Ministers also inspected the ongoing construction work of Mini Lecture Theater being constructed with an estimated cost of Rs. 7.03 Crores. On completion, the complex will have facilities of 9 classrooms & 15 faculty rooms accommodating 810 students and 30 faculty members. Besides, all classrooms will be Smart Classrooms.

During their visit to different departments including  engineering, management, social sciences, sciences and computer sciences Mir Zahoor Ahmad and Syed Farooq Andrabi directed the concerned to maintain cleanliness in and around the University Campus. They also asked them to work with utmost dedication and come up on the expectations of the students.
