ANANTNAG, May 7: Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rehman Veeri, today said that sustainable and tangible road infrastructure projects are in offing to decongest the inner roads and business hubs in towns and cities across the State.
The Minister said this while reviewing the progress on the construction works on Circular road Anantnag, which is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 15 Crore including the cost of bridge. The Minister also throw open the road for one way traffic. The newly constructed Phase-I of Circular roads which connects Mehandi Kadal with Ashajipora will decongest the old town and the main business centers of the district.
The Minister visited various spots across the road and took stock of the construction works going there. He directed the concerned engineers to personally monitor the progress on the road which is envisaged to decongest the old town.
The Minister also asked Chief Engineer R&B to start the work on the construction on the additional bridge on priority basis which would later provide an additional alternative for the traffic on the road. He said that sufficient funds would be provided for the Circular Road and the bridges.
The Minister said that after the completion of Phase-I, the Circular road would be extended to Donipawa, which would further reduce the traffic burden in the old town by connecting busy Janglat Mandi-Achabal road.
On Public demand, the Minister asked the officials of Irrigation and Flood Control department to take necessary arrangements by constructing flood gates at the proposed areas alongside the whole road so that flood like situations are mitigated. He asked Additional District Development Commissioner Anantnag to take measures to remove the bottlenecks on the project by acquiring the land and structures alongside the road, for which funds have been already provided.
The Minister was accompanied by Director Tourism Mr. Mahmood Ahmad Shah, Additional District Development Commissioner Anantnag Mr. Muhammad Younis Malik, Chief Engineer R&B, Mr. Satish Razdan, Chief Engineer PMGSY, SEs of R&B, PHE, besides other district officers.
Meanwhile, the Minister also visited the construction site of Hi-tech fruit and vegetable Mandi at Jablipora, Way side facility and Shopping Complex opposite Padshahibagh and Apple Valley Tourist Resort on Bijbehara-Pahalgam road and took stock on the progress of developmental works there.
The Minister was informed about the progress on land compensation and land acquiring of the 440 kanal Multi-Facility fruit and vegetable Mandi at Jablipora and progress on land development and earthwork filling. The minister directed SE R&B to start the work on the approach path for the Mandi by this year besides completion of the fencing around the acquired land. He also instructed the revenue authorities to keep a separate chunk of land reserved for the construction of school building and Panchayat Ghar for the residents of the area.
At Way-Side facility and Shopping Complex at Padshahibagh, being constructed at an estimated of Rs 4.76 Crore, the Minister asked Director Tourism to keep a provision for a meeting hall in the complex that would be taken for construction in the next phase. At Chinniwudder, he took a detailed review on the progress of construction work at Apple Valley Tourist Resort that being constructed at an estimated cost of 4.76 Crore. He said that owing to its prime location the Apple Valley Resort would not only attract people from parts of the state but tourists from other parts of country as well that travel via Bijbehara road to Pahalgam.
