Govt committed to comprehensive development of Jammu: Dy. CM


JAMMU, MAY 07 - Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today said that the Government is committed for comprehensive development of Jammu so the people get all the modern facilities and other related amenities.

Speaking at a function organized by the Chamber of Traders Federation Jammu, Dr. Nirmal Singh said that the Government has taken several initiatives to develop the city on modern lines and several mega projects have been launched for the purpose.

He said Mubarak Mandi Heritage project, artificial lake on Tawi River, Cable Car Project are among the major initiatives taken up by the coalition government for all round development of the city and its adjoining areas. He said Mubarak Mandi Heritage project is one such ambitious project which aims to develop the complex into a major tourist spot of the region.

“Tourism potential of the region has to be exploited to the maximum by way of promoting pilgrim tourism and upgrading facilities at major tourist spots of the area,” he added.

On the occasion, President, Chamber of Traders Federation Jammu Neeraj Anand projected various issues pertaining to the trader fraternity including comprehensive plan to construct new cluster markets and expansion of the existing markets like Ware house, Fruit Complex Narwal & Transport Nagar, incorporation of inputs from the fraternity in making the Master Plan more effective, face lifting of Jammu city, Metro/Mono Rail service in the city to ease increasing Traffic congestion, expansion of railway services in the state, development of Suchetgarh on the terms of Wagah border, sports complex on the pattern of Patiala Sports College, promoting Kud and Patnitop as tourist and educational hub, issues of crusher unit owners and Brick Kilns.

After giving patient hearing, Dr. Nirmal Singh assured the gathering to redress all the genuine issues projected by the Chamber of Traders Federation.

While speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister said that the government is working out several multi-pronged strategies to further streamline the power scenario in the state with focus on unattended areas. He said that after completion of RAPDRP works by 2017, power scenario will be completely changed in the city. The department has also created a transformer bank to cope up with the summer season. He appealed the people to pay their electricity bills in time so that the department would be able to provide them adequate power supply and to further develop power infrastructure in the state.

Giving details of various projects being executed in the city, Dr.Nirmal Singh said that Tawi River will be developed on the terms of Sabarmati Riverfront and Gandola project will help in attracting the tourists visiting the state. Besides, expansion of Jammu Airport is in progress and the issue of expansion of Railway Station has already been taken up with the Union Railway Minister, he added.

Speaking on the issue of promoting tourism in the region, Deputy Chief Minister said that government is committed to make Jammu as an independent tourist destination.

Among others, Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta, MLA Sat Sharma, MLA Rajesh Gupta, President Chamber of Traders Federation Jammu Neeraj Anand, office bearers and members of various trader associations were present on the occasion.
