JAMMU, APRIL 28: Underlining the importance of regular training for skill and proficiency development, Minister for Finance, Labour, and Culture & Employment Dr Haseeb Drabu Thursday said capacity building needs to be oriented systematically to manage the emerging market demands.

Dr Drabu was addressing an impressive gathering on the occasion of foundation laying ceremony of Excise and Taxation Training Institute in Nagrota. The institute is coming at the cost of 12.50 crore.

Minister of State for Finance, Labour & Employment, AjayNanda, MLA Nagrota Devender Singh Rana and Commissioner Excise and Taxation and Commissioner Commercial Taxes were also present.

Asking the officials to gear up for the GST regime, he emphasized the importance of training for successful implementation of GST in the state.

“For successful implementation of GST, we need intensive training of our human resource,” he said and added that the Institute should expand its ambit and emerge as an organization that not only provides training to government officers but to other stakeholders like businessmen and traders. He also urged to develop courses for Tax Advisors who would later assist the trading community in tax and other regulatory compliance. “All the traders cannot afford to have Chartered Accountants, let you create advisors for them,” he instructed the Institute faculty.

Dr Drabu while passing instructions to get the training Institute building completed by next year, insisted that while infrastructure creation is important, real emphasis should be on how that infrastructure is efficiently utilized.

Appreciating the efforts of the Excise and Taxation department, Dr Drabu said the training institute will help in enhancing the capabilities of our officers.

Speaking on the occasion, MoS Finance, AjayNanda urged officials to complete the project in time bound manner and reiterated that government is committed to all round sustainable development of the state.
