JAMMU, APRIL 21: Minister of State for Forest, Environment & Ecology, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries and Cooperative, Mir Zahoor Ahmad Thursday stressed on generating mass awareness about current global, regional and local environmental challenges and involving all stakeholders in the efforts to deal with these in a holistic manner.
The Minister was addressing a meeting convened to review the functioning of the Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing here today.
During the meeting, Director Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing, Mr. O.P. Sharma presented a detailed overview of the various Environmental Awareness programmes being organized by the Department across the State. Besides, the present Environmental scenario of the State was discussed in the meeting in detail.
The Director informed the Minister about the new initiative of popularizing the traditional forest based foods connecting the local people with the forests for improving their economic condition through collection, processing, packaging and marketing of the forest products.
The meeting was also attended by Scientist & Secretary, Mr. Humayun Rashid, State Environment Expert Appraisal Committee who informed the Minister about the various Remote Sensing and GIS related activities being carried out by the Department.
The Minister was informed about the Geoportal Solution Developed in house at the GIS Lab of the department at Bemina and its utility in the planning process of the state. He was also apprised about the development of a mobile android based application ‘Point GIS’ that has been developed by the Department to collect geospatial data.
