Bypolls to Anantnag assembly in J&K seat on May 16th

JAMMU, Apr 19: Anantnag  Assembly constituency and Tura Lok Sabha seat which fell vacant following the demise of the former chief minister, J&K and former Speaker P A Sangma respectively will under go bypolls in May.

The Election Commission Tuesday announced bypolls to one Lok Sabha and nine Assembly seats which would be held on May 16, while counting will take place on May 19.

National People's Party chief Sangma had died here on March 4 following a massive heart attack.

PDP leader Sayeed had died in harness as the chief minister on January 7 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi where he was undergoing treatment for pneumonia.

The other Assembly seats for which bypolls have been announced are Kanubari in Arunachal Pradesh, Godda and Panki in Jharkhand, Talala in Gujarat, Jangipur and Bilari in Uttar Pradesh, Ghoradongari in Madhya Pradesh and Palair in Telengana.(Agencies)
