Workshop On ‘social Institution And Women Empowerment’ Held

KISHTWAR, MARCH 18 - A one day work shop on “Social institution and women empowerment” was organized by National Rural Livelihood Mission (UMEED) Block, Department of Rural Development here today.
Aiming at to reduce poverty in the block by building grass root level institutions for poor, engaging them into gainful employment, and improve their income on sustainable basis, the UMEED, programme under National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) was launched in block Kishtwar in April –May 2015.
During one year long initiatives, around 260 Self Help Groups (SHG)S were formed across 32 gram Panchayats covering 2493 households. The roping in of these households has resulted in the saving of Rs 15,93,300 by the self help groups.
District Development Commissioner G.N Balwan was the chief guest on the occasion. Assistant Director Employment, Mohd Ashraf Wani, BDO, Director RSETI among others also participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion DDC said that this mission is a poverty alleviation project implemented by Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. He said the initiatives focus on promoting self-employment and organization of rural poor. The basic idea behind this programme is to organize the poor into Self Help Groups and make them capable for self-employment. He appealed to the people of erstwhile Kishtwar Block to enroll themselves in the mission and avail the benefits.
