SRINAGAR, Aug 11: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, IT and Technical Education, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari today reiterated government’s commitment to develop sports and athletic activities in the state adding that efforts are underway to further improve sports infrastructure including stadia in cities and play field in rural areas.The Minister was addressing prize distribution function organized by Youth services and Sports Department to felicitate and award the students who participated in recently concluded Under-19, Under-17 and Under-14 inter zone tournaments.

The Director General Youth Services and Sports, Mr. Jahangir Mir and President J&K football Association, Zamir Ahmed Thakur were also present on the occasion.Addressing the function the Minister announced Rs. 1.50 Crore for development of indoor stadium. He also said that Rs. 40 Crore would be provided for the development and modernization of Bakshi Stadium.The Minister said that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is keen to see the sports activities touch new heights in the State for which he has assured full support.

Mr. Ansari assured the management of the indoor stadium for every possible help in resolving the pending issues and said that an enquiry will be made to check any negligence in the development of indoor stadium.Referring to the Sports Council, the Minister said that only sports knowing persons will be given place in the sports council.The Minister congratulated the YSS department for rendering best services to inspire the youth of the State.

Director General Youth Service and Sports speaking on the occasion said that the department is playing a vital role in boosting the youth in the field of sports. He said the department of YSS is conducting various sports events in the State.District, Youth Services and Sports, officer, Mr. Balbir Singh while giving brief of sports activities said that as many as 812 boys participated in the football and cricket tournaments.Later, the Minister gave mementoes among the winners and runner-up.
