JAMMU, Feb 23: A police officer was suspended on Tuesday a day after a Gujjar protester died in alleged police firing during a protest over an anti-encroachment drive in Sarore Ada area near Jammu.
Station House Officer (SHO) Bari Brahmana was suspended and attached to District Police Lines Samba until further inquiry, said a senior police officer.
The protester, Muhammad Yaqoob, died after policemen accompanying the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) during an demolition drive, opened fire on the Gujjar protesters.
As per reports Peoples Democratic Party demanded action against the culprits and appealed to the Governor NN Vohra to investigate the incident.
