JAMMU, Feb 12:Members of the deaf and dumb association of Jammu and Kashmir calls on Speaker J&K, legislative Assembly and MLA, Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta at his official residence here today.
President, Vinod Kumar, Vice-President, Krishan Kumar Kesar, General Secretary, Bushan Kesar along with his team apprised the Speaker about the problems being faced by the person who are suffering from this disease.
Vinod Kumar said that despite his rigorous & continuous efforts in getting justice for these people, no step has been taken till date in this regard and the number of cases coming forward with each passing day is a worrying factor and particularly in Jammu region due to the nonexistent of any specialized treatment centre in this part of the state.
Kavinder Gupta gave a patient hearing to the members of the association and said that it is very unfortunate on the part of previous government that nothing has been done for the welfare of hearing impaired persons, the science has made a remarkable progress and almost everything is curable in this ever progressing era of science and technology, he added.
He said that the primary thing which added to the miseries of these people is the lack of political will of the previous NC-Congress government, who were not able to open even one speech therapy unit in Jammu region which shows their biased attitude between regions.
Gupta said that we have adequate number of post graduates in the field of speech and language therapy who can prove to be boon for these hearing impaired people and assured them that the availability of funds has no relevance in doing these types of humane things for the welfare of the society as the BJP government at the centre is always on the forefront in releasing funds for such welfare things and he will take up the matter at the appropriate level and if need arises will talk to the union health minister for the opening of specialized speech therapy centre in the state and particularly in Jammu region which has no such centre and has the highest ranking in such type of cases.
