‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ Cyclothon concludes


 

 

UDHAMPUR, Feb 07: A two day ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ Cyclothon  organized by the district administration, aimed at to encourage mass participation in Girl Child campaign, concluded here today with colorful programmes organized at more than a dozen locations.

 

During the event, 180 km Cycling expedition by 22 members of Jammu Cycling Club and a district level conference on Girl Child were main attractions. The town was decorated and thousands of girls and their parents besides teachers organized street plays and other cultural programmes where the cyclists halted to a rousing reception.

 

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal accompanied by Deputy Commissioners Dr Shahid Iqbal and Romesh Kumar besides senior officers of health department flagged off the cycling expedition from Jammu to Udhampur on Saturday.

 

Awareness camps at six locations enroute the expedition were organized by various departments of the district administration.

 

A District Level Conference on Girl Child Education, government schemes for girls, scholarship schemes, BBP, PC&PNDT Act and legal provisions, healthcare and gender sensitivity was also organized which was chaired by DDC Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary.

 

The event was also attended by the officers of district administration, State Health Society, Educational Institutions, NGOs, Business establishments, partner organizations, students, parents and teachers.

 

On the occasion, cultural programmes were presented by Fusion Group of GDC Udhampur and students from various institutions.

 

The DDC highlighted the achievements of district administration under ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ and Save the Girl Child Campaign.

 

Dr Shahid led the group of 100 cyclists which included 22 cyclists from Jammu, for the cycling awareness drive across the town. DIO-NIC Anil Sharma and Mr Bunti of Cycling Association participated along with the group. The Jammu Cyclists completed more than 180 kms cycling in 2 days for awareness on BBBP.

 

The Cyclothon which commenced from DC Office Udhampur after passing through the main locations of the town culminated at Mini Secretariate .ADC A S Rana, CPO Rakesh Jamwal, ACD Joginder Rai, CMO Dr Chander Parkash and various district officers were present on the occasion.
