  Process started for identifying AIIMS sites in Jammu, Srinagar: Lal Singh

JAMMU, Aug 05:As per the directions of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India (GoI, the Jammu and Kashmir Government is soon going to start the process for identifying sites of 200 acre land each at Srinagar and Jammu for establishment of AIIMS.Addressing a press conference here today, Health and Medical Education Minister, Choudhary Lal Singh said that the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has asked the State Government to identify suitable sites for setting up of AIIMS in Jammu and Srinagar.

          Minister for Industries and Commerce Mr Chander Parkash Ganga, Minister for Social Welfare, Mr. Bali Bhagat, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Mr. Abdul Haq, Minister for Transport Mr. Abdul Gani Kohli, Minister of State for Education, Information and Culture Mrs. Priya Sethi, MLAs Mr. Sat Pal Sharma, Rajesh Gupta and Mr. Shakti Parihar were also present at the press conference.     

The Health Minister said Joint Secretary, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Mr. Sunil Sharma in a letter to Secretary Health and Medical Education, Government of Jammu and Kashmir has called for expediting the process for establishment of AIIMS in J&K as two teams have been constituted to visit the State to finalize the sites at Jammu and Srinagar. He said Union Health Ministry has also sent a check list with certain instructions to be followed while identifying the two sites.  

         Choudhary Lal Singh said that soon after receiving the letter from Union Health Ministry, the Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu have been asked to start the process for identification of suitable land in the twin capitals of the State.

          Elaborating further the Health Minister said that the process of land identification will be taken up immediately in consonance with the instructions given in the checklist. He said that the Union Health Ministry has advised the State Government to complete the land identification process at the earliest so that the central teams visiting the State could finalize the sites to pave the way for establishment of AIIMS in Srinagar and Jammu.
