Retiree members from Govt services be made tax free in pension

Er. Rajesh Gupta

Jammu, November 04: Lot of of retired Govt employees had met ME, CrossTown News regarding the issue of income tax on their pensions. It said that every retired person after serving the Govt for 30 to 37 years, where he worked & was paid per month which was treated as income & was liable for income tax is ok.

But after retirement they are paid pension as a superannuation fund for their livelihood on account of serving for so many years to nation.

It was also informed that why income tax is levied on pension is a valid concern. This is not any income for service or work. This is only a defered wage by the dept. to the employee who served the department for so many years.

It also added that if the pensions of MP/MLA's is not taxable, why pension of employees is taxable. It is clear violation of Art. 14 & 16 of Constitutionof India.

It is a question mark on the law makers of India that why they are descriminating the employees, who used their lives upto 37 years to serve the department & after superannuation also taxed.....?
