KATRA, SEPT 24: The 13th Mission Dosti Rustam-E-International Indian Style Dangal was held as a part of holy Navratra Festival here today.
The dangal which is locally called as Shinj was organized by J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association in collaboration with tourism department, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, district administration Reasi, J&K State Sports Council, J&K Police, Power Grid, NHPC, J&K Bank, Jamkash Vehiclades Pvt., Ltd., State Bank of India, LIC, HDFC Bank etc.
Administrator of Lakshadweep, Farooq Khan, Minister of Forests and Environment, Ch Lal Singh, Minister of State for Tourism Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Finance, Ajay Nanda, MLA Udhampur Pawan Gupta, DC Reasi Prasana Ramaswamy G, DC Udhampur Ravinder Kumar and other senior officers of police and civil administration were present on the occasion.
In all, 31 bouts were fought during the competition in which local wrestlers and wrestlers from various states and outside country took part.
The decision for the final bout was made on the basis of points. Sabha of Punjab was declared winner of Dangal and awarded Rs 71000 and other gifts while as the runner up Sasha of Belarus was given cash prize of Rs 50000 by the chief guest.
The second bout was fought between Joginder of Delhi and Masha Mythalo of Ukraine in which the former emerged winner. A cash prize of Rs 71000 and Rs 50000 each were also awarded to winner and runner up of the wrestling competition respectively.
The third bout was fought between Prince of Punjab and Hado of Georgia in which latter won the bout and got Rs 30000 cash prize.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Forests and Environment, Ch Lal Singh emphasized the need for inculcating the spirit of sportsmanship and its role in national character building. He said that the event has become cementing force between people of different regions and provided encouragement to the local wrestlers. Dangals keep the youth away from many bad habits like drug addiction, he added.
President of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association Shiv Kumar Sharma extended thanks to the organizing team and all those who extended financial and physical support in smooth conduct of the wrestling match. He urged for maximum support to make the event a grand success.
In the dangal, the people also witnessed six bouts of girls among them one girl was from Baramulla and two from district Reasi. The girls from Gujrat, Delhi, Punjab, Jammu etc also took part in the bout competitions.
