Play game with spirit of sportsmanship, not letting anxiety of results mar its essence: Bali to players

JAMMU, Dec 10:A three-day National Level U-19 Girls mega sports event (10 to 12 December) commenced at Maharaja Hari Singh Agriculture Collegiate (MHAC) School at Nagbani,  here today with lot of enthusiasm and pomp and show.

The event has been organized by the MHAC School under the aegis of DAV National Sports. The beginning marked the presentation of wonderful cultural programme and impressive march past by the sportspersons (Girls) of the MHAC School and other institutions from across the country.

Minister for Social Welfare, Forests, Ecology & Environment, Mr. Bali Bhagat was the chief guest, while as IGP Jammu Range, Danish Rana was guest of honour at the inaugural ceremony.

General Secretary DAV College Managing Committee, Mr. R.S. Sharma, Principal MHAC School, Mr. Alok Betab, other members of the Managing Committee of DAV, staff Members of MHAC School, besides large number of sports lovers, students, parents and prominent citizens were also present on the occasion.

Over three thousand sports persons (girls) from about 16 States including Jammu and Kashmir are participating in  various sports events  like Kabaddi, Volleyball, Basketball, Kho-Kho, Chess, Yoga, Cricket, Judo, Table Tennis, Badminton, Boxing, Handball, Hockey, Football, Roller Skating, Gymnastics, Lawn Tennis, Swimming, Archery, Air Rifle and Athletics.

Congratulating the organizers for hosting this national level event in Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister said that the endeavour will go a long way in inspiring the budding players of the State in different sports activities. He said the event will prove quite useful for the players who have come from different parts of the country to interact with each other and to understand the culture, languages and traditions of their States. He said sports are the best mediums to strengthen ties with other States, countries, and efforts should be made to organize such events frequently, he asserted.

Highlighting the importance of the sports for students, the Minister said that the games not only keep the youth physically and mentally fit, but also inculcate sense of responsibility, discipline, patriotism and help tremendously in developing the overall personality. He called upon the players to focus on their targets with the spirit of sportsmanship without caring for the results. He said everyone cannot be the winner, but sportsmanship always wins, therefore, they should not care for the outcomes of the games and continue to make their sincere efforts to win and ultimately they will achieve the target, he added.

The organizers also honoured the Minister and other guests with mementoes.
