JAMMU, Dec 08: In order to discuss measures taken to check circulation of fake Indian currency notes in the state, a meeting of State Level Committee was held at Police Headquarters (PHQ), here today under the Chairmanship of Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar.
At the outset detailed discussion was held on different channels and routes from where Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) are pumped into the State. They also discussed recent trends in detection of FICN.
Mr. Rajendra stressed for coordination among all stakeholders to plug the said routes and channels and curb the crime. He said that proper monitoring by the stakeholders is required to check circulation of FICN, besides dissemination of information related to FICN recoveries, which would help to ascertain the links between the criminals.
Saying that role of banks and law enforcing agencies is imperative to identify elements involved in such malpractices, DGP said that prosecution has also a great responsibility to fight the cases vigorously in the courts so that the culprits are not left free on technical grounds. He said that intelligence sharing among different agencies could also help to bring the culprits to justice.
Mr. Rajendra asked to explore possibilities for organizing training camps in police training institutions, in collaboration with banks, in order to acquaint police personnel with techniques to detect forged notes. Magnetic fake domination note detectors would help apprehend the culprits and detain them under preventive measures.
Earlier, DIG Crime, Mr. Johny William, who is also Nodal Officer of the Committee, briefed the meeting through power point presentation about the progress achieved in curbing the fake currency circulation in the
state. He said that 10 cases of fake currency have been registered in the state this year and 15 persons arrested, besides recovery of fake currency of more than 17 lakh.
DIG CID Kashmir, Syed Kifayat Hyder also apprised the meeting about the achievements in the Valley to apprehend the involved persons in smuggling and circulation of FICN. He said that close vigil is being maintained on activities of suspected persons and channels, besides intelligence sharing with other agencies.
SSP, CI Jammu, Mr. Shailender Singh, AIG (CIV) PHQ, Mr. Kulbir Singh, besides representatives of RBI, IB and Customs were also present in the meeting.
