Srinagar, Oct 11: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Sunday said the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir could take place in the near future, while stressing that the final decision on timing rested with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Athawale said the Centre had earlier committed in Parliament to restoring statehood at an appropriate time. He added that he was not in a position to announce any specific timeline.
