Leh, Oct 9: Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, has increased the maximum age limit for Nambardars in the Union Territory from 60 to 63 years, enabling experienced community leaders to continue serving in their roles for a longer period.
Under the Jammu and Kashmir Lambardari Rules, 1980, the term of office of a Lambardar is five years or until the age of 60 years, whichever is earlier.
Exercising the powers conferred under Section 6 of the Jammu and Kashmir Lambardari Act, 1972, read with Rule 16 of the Jammu and Kashmir Lambardari Rules, 1980, the Lieutenant Governor has raised the maximum age limit to 63 years, while retaining the prescribed five-year term.
It will also help address the practical challenges of replacing experienced Nambardars in Ladakh’s remote villages and difficult terrain, while ensuring smoother administrative transitions.
