Srinagar Municipal Corporation seals 08 pet clinics and unlicensed animal breeding facilities

SRINAGAR, Oct 02: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Friday sealed eight premises across the city’s South and West zones during an enforcement drive against unauthorised pet clinics and unlicensed animal breeding facilities.

The action was carried out under Order No. 1142 issued by the Joint Commissioner (Administration), SMC, which directed joint inspection teams to check unregulated animal commercialisation and enforce statutory municipal standards.

Municipal Veterinary Officer and Chief Enforcement Officer were designated as nodal officers to oversee the operation and compile the action-taken report.

The inspection teams comprised Veterinary Assistant Surgeons, Zonal Enforcement Officers, Zonal Sanitation Officers, Building Inspectors and respective Ward Officers. They inspected several establishments, including private veterinary polyclinics and commercial pet vendors.

Officials found animals, primarily pedigree cats, housed in cages without mandatory municipal permissions or statutory breeding documentation.

SMC authorities said strict regulatory scrutiny will continue across all municipal wards to curb unauthorised clinical operations and unregulated animal trade.
