SSP Baramulla calls for closer supervision, timely case disposal

Srinagar, Oct 1: Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh has directed police officers to expedite pending investigations and ensure strict compliance with legal timelines, cautioning against procedural lapses that could affect criminal cases, including those resulting in default bail.

SSP issued the directions while chairing two comprehensive Crime Review Meetings held on September 29 and 30 at District Police Lines (DPL) Baramulla and Police Post Delina, respectively.

The meetings were attended by DySP headquarters, all Station House Officers (SHOs), in-charges of police posts and investigating officers (IOs) of sub-division Baramulla.

During the meetings, Singh carried out a case-wise and IO-wise review of ongoing investigations, focusing on pending evidence collection, investigation timelines, procedural bottlenecks and long-pending cases.

The officers were directed to complete pending investigative tasks within clearly defined timelines and address deficiencies identified during the review.

The SSP stressed strict adherence to statutory provisions and prescribed timelines under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other applicable laws.

He directed officers to closely track investigation deadlines and ensure timely completion of cases to prevent avoidable procedural lapses, including those that could lead to default bail. Directions were also issued for expediting the lawful disposal of long-pending investigations and inquest proceedings.

Supervisory officers were asked to promptly address legal, forensic and procedural bottlenecks and intervene wherever required. The meetings also reviewed weekly and monthly targets for case disposal and the overall performance of investigating officers.

Police officers were directed to closely monitor the progress of investigations and submit regular reports detailing case disposals, pending matters, gaps and corrective measures.

Emphasising the importance of professional and timely investigation, SSP Gurinderpal said that “fair, meticulous and legally compliant investigation is central to effective criminal justice delivery and strengthening public confidence in policing.”

He directed all officers to accord top priority to the quality of investigations, timely disposal of cases and strict compliance with legal procedures.

The SSP further called for regular supervisory reviews to ensure sustained monitoring and accountability and directed officers to implement the instructions within the prescribed timelines.

The police said the measures are aimed at strengthening investigation standards, improving accountability and facilitating timely and lawful delivery of justice. Related Articles "BJP long wanted to enslave people of J&K "
