Jammu, Sep 10: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Joginder Singh suspended 02 police personnel, including the incharge of Border Police Post (BPP) Chakrohi and attached 03 SPOs following the custodial death of a 32-year-old man at the police post.
Innocent was allegedly taken from his home at around 8 pm on Tuesday after a neighbour lodged a complaint in connection with a family dispute.
Locals alleged that he was assaulted inside the police post during the night and that his family was not allowed to meet him.
Following the death, protesters blocked roads at Chakrohi and demanded an SIT investigation, compensation for the family and an SPO position for Chand’s brother.
Senior police and civil administration officials reached the area to calm the protesters.
SP Headquarters Jammu Anna Sinha said a magisterial as well as departmental inquiry had been ordered. The neighbour who had allegedly complained against man was also arrested.
SSP Jammu ordered the immediate suspension of PSI Vikram Choudhary, incharge of BPP Chakrohi, and Constable Rinku Kumar pending inquest proceedings.
The two have been directed to report to District Police Lines Jammu and surrender their uniform articles.
They will remain entitled to subsistence allowance during the suspension. SP Rural Jammu has been tasked with conducting a departmental inquiry into the conduct of the suspended personnel and a preliminary inquiry concerning three SPOs Rajesh Choudhary, Ashwani Kumar and Manpreet Singh.
The three SPOs have been attached from BPP Chakrohi to DPL Jammu pending the outcome of the inquiries.
