JAMMU: The Special Crime Wing (SCW), Crime Branch Jammu, has registered a case against Jyoti Devi resident of Lower Muthi, Jammu, in an alleged land investment fraud involving Rs 18 lakh.
According to a Crime Branch official, the case was registered following a complaint alleging that Jyoti Devi, along with her husband, allegedly induced the complainant to invest money in a proposed sale of land at Lower Barnai, Jammu, by assuring him of higher returns.
During the preliminary enquiry, the allegations were found to disclose a prima facie commission of an offence. The complainant alleged that he paid Rs 18 lakh to the accused in January 2024, but later they allegedly started avoiding him and failed to return even the principal amount despite repeated requests.
It added that, based on the findings of the preliminary enquiry, a formal case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Police Station SCW Jammu and investigation has been taken up.
