JAMMU, Aug 19: Police have suspended a Probationary Sub-Inspector and a Head Constable posted at Police Station Janipur following a departmental enquiry into the graft case in which the PSI was arrested by the CBI while allegedly accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe.
PSI Danish Habib, a 2024-batch officer, was arrested by the CBI on August 16 while allegedly accepting the bribe from a complainant for settling a domestic dispute.
A departmental enquiry was subsequently ordered to ascertain his role and the involvement of any other police personnel.
The enquiry found that Head Constable Beddi Singh, who was posted as Munshi at the police station, was also involved in the case.
He had allegedly transferred a complaint lodged by a woman against her husband to PSI Danish for investigation before the joining of the new SHO at Janipur.
It said that the two officials allegedly did not bring the complaint to the notice of the new SHO even after his joining and were trying to pressure the woman’s husband into paying money to avoid his arrest.
The man refused to pay the bribe and approached the CBI & following a trap laid & PSI Danish Habib was arrested red-handed on August 16 evening while allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant
