IAS Officer from J&K Amit Sharma conferred Honoris Causa Ph.D with Gold Medal in Public Administration by Maryland State University of U.S.A

New Delhi, July 19: Shri Amit Sharma, an Indian Administrative Service Officer of 2012 batch of AGMUT Cadre and previously, the topper of 2001 batch of Jammu & Kashmir Administrative Services, has been conferred Honoris Cause Ph.D alongwith a Gold Medal at Indo International Intellectual Conclave 2026 held here today by the prestigious Maryland State University of United States of America for his exceptional contribution towards Public Administration and services rendered to the society over last quarter of a century (twenty-five years) as a Civil Servant, which has been well appreciated and recognized by this top U.S.A University.

In an official communique issued by Maryland State University U.S.A to Shri Amit Sharma, it has been mentioned that “The Doctoral Monitoring Board of Maryland State University is pleased to confirm your nomination for the Honoris Causa Ph.D. in recognition of your contributions to the field of Public Administration.” It further stated that “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to you. You shall serve as a role model for the youth, and in view of your achievements, we are conferring upon you this degree.” This latest and rarest conferring of Ph.D honour by a top university of U.S.A to Amit Sharma in the field of Public Administration has come after a detailed round of scrutiny of past performances, background test-checks and testimonials wherein he was shortlisted to get this award at this juncture of his career. On receiving his Honoris Causa Ph.D in Public Administration, Amit Sharma emotionally dedicated this award to both his late parents, Smt Santosh Sharma who passed away recently and Shri Baldev Sharma, both of whom, built a strong foundation of diligence, patience and consistency towards public welfare and social good. He also dedicated it to his family, friends and even critics, who constantly inspired him to do better and better in times to come all through these twenty-five years of public service.

But he assured at this stage that he shall keep devoting himself towards contributing more vigorously towards the cause of others with the assurance to all that the best out of him is yet to come.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Amit Sharma has always been playing a key role, with a difference, towards youth emancipation and bringing innovation in society with his proactive contributions in various roles and postings held since his joining as a Civil Servant. Currently, Amit Sharma has been playing a vital role as a Director in Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India on Central Deputation wherein he has been given the sensitive assignment of handling ongoing Census 2027 Operations for both the UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, which is first-ever fully paperless and digital Census happening in the nation. Also, right from the childhood, Amit has been a very bright and talented student, always has been a topper in studies, right from KG to PG level, he has been to participating in talk shows on Radio and TV, he represented J&K as a young meritorious student in Millennium Youth Parliament held in New Delhi in 2000 A.D, he has been to write Articles on multiple social issues in local and national Newspapers, he has been a debater, stage performer, keynote speaker and leader in various national and international seminars, social service activities throughout his career. Amit Sharma, is an MBA by profession and he is a strong believer of incorporating change with the advent of technology and he even specialised in e-Governance domain for one year from top management school of Indian Institute of Management, Indore, before taking-up the key roles, meant to take forward Digital India vision of Prime Minister, as Information Technology Secretary of three consecutive states/UTs which are Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Mizoram. Amit stamped his will to bring reforms with the successful implementation of e-Office solution in all these states/UTs with which all office work functioning shifted from physical files to online files henceforth, later, he contributed towards making maximum public services online, setting-up State Data Centres, State Wide Area Network, Telecom / Mobile Connectivity Network here which has immensely helped the cause of public in all these states in disposal of office works. Whether Amit Sharma served in far flung areas as SDM in Dudu Basantgarh, served as MD, J&K SIDCO or Director Food & Civil Supplies or Administrator Associated Hospitals during the peak COVID times, he made it a top priority to serve the poorest of the poor and uplift the economy through his efforts and bring positive changes in the lives of people.

Even Amit Sharma’s recent past tenures as Secretary Mining and Administrative Reforms J&K or Secretary Trasnport, Rural Development, IT, Disaster Management, Science & Technology in Ladakh or Secretary Cooperatives and ICT in Mizoram are worth appreciation, as he brought lot of policy changes and led a mark with his exceptional contributions like discovery of 5.9 MT of Lithium in Reasi belt of J&K, maiden launch of five hydrogen-fuel cells buses for public commutation in Ladakh or taking key initiatives through MPACS during International Year of Cooperation for the public good in Mizoram.

So, today’s awarding of Honoris Causa Ph.D in Public Administration to Amit Sharma by one of the leading Universities of U.S.A (Maryland State University) comes at a right time which shall inspire many other Civil Servants, professionals and officers working in different domains to keep constantly trying and improvising for public welfare so as to get many such recognitions, which shall bring honour and laurels to the nation as well, in the times to come.
