Coimbatore, July 06: The 5th Additional District Court in Coimbatore has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the present Coimbatore District Collector Pawankumar Giriyapanavar after an Additional Public Prosecutor failed to appear during the hearing of a murder case resulting in the postponement of proceedings.
The murder case related to an incident in Karumathampatti, is currently being heard before the 5th Additional District Court in Coimbatore. During the hearing today a doctor from Kerala appeared before the court to give evidence as a prosecution witness.
However the Additional Public Prosecutor did not attend the proceedings making it impossible to examine the witness and causing inconvenience to the accused as well as delaying the trial. Taking serious note of the prosecution's absence 5th Additional District Judge Sivakumar directed the State Government represented through the Coimbatore District Collector to deposit Rs 10,000 before the court within one week.
The court ordered that the amount to be paid to the Doctor towards travel expenses and compensation for the inconvenience caused due to the adjournment.
