EoW J&K files chargesheet against Superintendent Engineer

SRINAGAR, May 18: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a former In-Charge Superintendent Engineer of the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) for allegedly tampering with official records to obtain illegal service benefits.

According to officials, the chargesheet was presented before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar in connection with FIR No. 09/2015 registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, and 201 RPC.

The case was initiated following a written complaint accusing the retired officer of altering his date of birth in official service documents.

The matter was subsequently investigated by the then Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir, now functioning as the Economic Offences Wing Kashmir.

Investigations revealed that the accused had allegedly changed his date of birth from October 28, 1955, to October 28, 1958, with the intention of extending his service tenure and availing undue benefits.

It said the forgery was confirmed through forensic examination conducted by the Forensic Science Laboratory  Srinagar as well as verification reports obtained from the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE).

During the investigation, it also surfaced that the accused had allegedly destroyed the original service book to erase crucial evidence, prompting the addition of Section 201 RPC related to destruction of evidence.

Crime Branch officials stated that the allegations were established during the course of investigation, following which the chargesheet was filed before the competent court for judicial proceedings.
