Srinagar, May 16: Chief Spokesperson of the ruling National Conference, Tanvir Sadiq said that the NC Government would soon take a decision on imposing a ban on liquor in J&K, while accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of indulging in “drama” over protests against liquor sales.
Addressing reporters, Sadiq said the liquor policy had been framed during the Lieutenant Governor’s administration in 2023 and questioned the BJP’s silence when the policy was introduced.
He added that “when the policy on liquor licences was framed during LG’s rule, they were at the forefront. They should protest against those who framed the policy on liquor sales in 2023. At that time, they did nothing".
He asserted that the Omar Abdullah-led Government was sensitive to public sentiment, particularly in Kashmir, where there has been growing opposition to liquor sales. I promise that when a ban is imposed, it will be the National Conference that does it, and it will be done soon.
