Dr. Kuldeep Gupta Submits Proposal to CUJ VC to Promote Kabaddi on Campus

Jammu, May 16:  The Jammu & Kashmir Amateur Kabaddi Association has formally proposed that Central University of Jammu promote Kabaddi and develop dedicated infrastructure on campus. The proposal was submitted by Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Gupta, General Secretary of the Association, to Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor.

The submission highlights Kabaddi’s importance as India’s indigenous sport and its benefits—physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, courage, and quick decision-making. Citing national initiatives like Khelo India and support from the Sports Authority of India, the Association urges the University to build on this momentum by prioritizing Kabaddi among varsity sports.

Key recommendations include prioritizing Kabaddi in university sports planning, upgrading existing facilities to support training and competitive play, and considering construction of a dedicated Kabaddi or multipurpose indoor stadium. The proposal also requests collaborative programs with the J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association to run coaching camps, talent-identification initiatives, workshops and UT-level tournaments.

The Association has offered technical assistance, qualified coaches, and officials to support training and events. It emphasizes that Kabaddi is cost-effective and accessible, making it ideal for students from diverse backgrounds and a strong pathway to state, national, and international representation.

The J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association seeks the University’s favourable consideration and timely action to establish Kabaddi as a priority sport at Central University of Jammu.
