JAMMU, May 11: Wazir House in Bhaderwah figures as Heritage Built/Site on National Mission on Monuments and Antiquities , which is a big moment for Bhaderwah.
Wazir House Wazir Jamit Ram at geo location Sarol Bagh, Wazir Kotli built in between 18th and 19th Century, whereas the family has a significant historical background as they claim direct descent from Wazir Lakhpat Rai, who was considered one of the most competent generals of Maharaja Gulab Singh.
Wazir Lakhpat Rai had played a vital role in the conquest of Ladakh which was headed by General Zorawar Singh.
Lakhpat Rai remained the governor of Kashmir in AD 1846 Ladak, Cullingham pp 342 .
The unassuming Samadhi of Wazir Lakhpat Singh is located in the busy Polo View Road of Srinagar.
As per details with Cross Town News, the building has picked up greatly from the traditional architectural style prevailing in the Valley at the time. This period witnessed the introduction of Colonial architecture in the region, particularly in Kashmir and symbolises the transition from purely vernacular to influences of colonial albeit in style and external decoration.
The access to the building is through an interesting deedh or gateway which enters into a square open court and leads to the house.
As per details with Cross Town News, the house is a two-storey large building and has a prominent colonnaded entrance portico which gives way to a large hallway further opening out on to a square covered courtyard with rooms around it. The principal materials used in the construction of the building are stone, brick and wood.
The windows on the front facade of the building are pointed-arched with two large bay windows dubs projecting out on either end. Most of the windows are segmental arched with slightly projecting brick surrounds.
