Jammu, May 01: Few labourers feared trapped after a small bridge collapsed on Bantalab Road near Thathar area of Jammu district.
Initial reports indicated that four to five persons may have lost their lives in the incident, though there was no official confirmation of casualties at the time of filing this report.
It said the structure suddenly gave way, trapping people under debris and triggering panic in the area.
Rescue teams, assisted by machinery, were seen clearing debris as locals gathered at the site.
Authorities have launched a rescue operation to trace any persons trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
Officials said details regarding the cause of the collapse and the exact number of casualties would be ascertained after completion of rescue efforts.
