A Lady IAS Officer booked over cheating case of Rs 95 Lakh

Cuttack, Apr 11: Police are seeking permission from the government to initiate action against IAS officer and Home Department Additional Secretary Aradhana Das in connection with a Rs 95 lakh fraud case.

It said strong evidence had been found against Das in the case as a complaint was lodged on February 5 this year by one Kamal, who alleged that he had entered into an agreement in November 2022 to purchase Das’s plot for Rs 95 lakh. According to the complaint, Rs 85 lakh was transferred to Das’s bank account through RTGS, while the remaining Rs 10 lakh was paid in cash.

But, Das did not register the land or hand over possession after receiving the money. The complainant alleged that she later said she had spent the money, and also abused and threatened to implicate her in a false case.

The case was registered against Das at CDA Phase-II police station under Sections 318(4), 316(2), 296(b) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The report said added that despite being a government officer in the Home department, Das did not cooperate with police and refused to accept notices sent by post.

The Cuttack DCP wrote to the state Home Secretary and the Police Commissioner on April 1 informing them that an FIR had been registered against Das. On Monday, the Additional Commissioner of Police also wrote to the Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department stating that an FIR had been registered against her.

More reports awaited.
