Kishtwar, Dec 31: A District-Level NCORD (Narco Coordination Centre) meeting was today convened under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS), to review the ongoing measures for combating drug abuse, strengthening the de-addiction framework, and assessing the progress of the Information, Education & Communication (IEC) campaign under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The District Social Welfare Officer, Kishtwar, Sh. Tariq Parvez Qazi (JKAS), apprised the chair of the Action Taken Report on the decisions taken in the previous meeting.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner undertook a comprehensive review of the prevailing drug abuse scenario in the district and sought detailed inputs regarding vulnerable areas, affected age groups, and identified hotspots.
He also reviewed the preventive and enforcement measures being undertaken by the concerned departments. Emphasizing the crucial role of community participation, the DC called for active involvement of all stakeholders in the UT-wide IEC Campaign 2.0.
He directed that all nine nominated resource persons from various line departments must ensure wider outreach and effective public awareness on drug abuse prevention.
The DC further reiterated that all Heads of Departments must ensure the participation of their nominated resource persons, warning that any non-compliance or absenteeism would be viewed seriously.
He directed CMO Kishtwar to further direct medical shop owners to dispense Schedule H drugs strictly on valid prescription and ensure computerized billing.
As internet facilities have been started in the Marwah–Warwan area, the DC directed the Drug Inspector, Kishtwar, to ensure the implementation of computerized billing systems and installation of CCTV cameras in medical establishments.
The Tehsildars were directed to conduct joint market checking drives regarding Schedule H drugs to curb the illegal sale of such medicines.
The DC issued directions to all the Tehsil Level & Sub Division Level Committees to declare panchayats as Nasha Mukt as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SoP).
Further CEO Kishtwar was directed to declare remaining schools as Tobacco Free Zones as per the TOFEI guidelines.
Pankaj further directed the installation of CCTV cameras in identified hotspots across the district and instructed regular monitoring of drug deliveries through courier services.
