J&K Govt nod to 18% transport fare hike



JAMMU, Dec 23: The Government today gave nod to the 18% hike in the transport fare after a high level meeting held here this evening, which was held under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary to Government, Finance Department, Santosh D. Vaidhya.

Secretary Transport, Avny Lavasa; Acting Transpoprt Commissioner, J&K, Anju Gupta; Managing Director JKRTC Abdul Rashid War, Addl Secretary GAD Rohit Sharma; Joint Transport Commissioner Vikas Anand; RTO Jammu Jasmeet Singh and several officials from Planning and Development department attended the meeting.

RTO Kashmir joined the meeting through virtual mode. Chairman, All J&K Transport Welfare Association Karan Singh Wazir besides other office bearers including- Vijay Singh Chib, Mohd Yousuf, Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Mohd Latief, Ghulam Rasool, Sanjeev Choudhary, Vijay Dogra and others were also present.

During the meeting AJKTWA Chairman and members strongly presented their view point and said that for the last about five years no hike in the public transport fare has been given.

They referred to the increase in the tax, fuel prices and claimed that transporters were facing lot of crisis.

After long deliberations, the Principal Secretary, Finance agreed to give 18% hike in the transport fare and said that it will be implemented from January Ist, 2026.
