JAMMU, Nov 07: Amit Sharma, Secretary to Government of Mizoram, ICT Department with Additional Charge of Director Census, Mizoram has proceeded on Central Deputation under CSS, as Director Census Operations, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on full-time basis, wherein he shall have to join this new posting of Director under Central Deputation in Government of India within a period of three weeks of issuance of this Order by the competent authority.
As per details with Cross Town News, Son of the Soil IAS Amit Sharma returns back to the homeland after a gap of about three years, to conduct Census in the home soil, this time digitally, after gaining a rich productive experience of serving in three tough states/UTs located on n different nooks and corners of Bharat namely, Mizoram, Ladakh and J&K to be posted as full-time Director Census Operations of J&K and Ladakh regions on a Central Deputation under CSS for a period of five years or further posting whichever is earlier.
During his past tenures, Amit Sharma has been known as Go-Getter, whether during his tenure in Mizoram or in Ladakh, he has contributed immensely towards various departmental activities and set highest standards of administration there, backed by visible growth and development. Being an IT and Digital India champion which has been recognized numerous times at various national and international platforms, Amit Sharma hold the unique distinction of consecutively serving three states in a row as IT Secretary, beginning from J&K, followed by Ladakh and currently, Mizoram wherein he has brought great reforms, such as successful implementation of paperless office (e-Office) in Mizoram Secretariat, pushing DigiLocker to new heights which has been recently awarded at national level, inking BHASHINI MoU with Government of India laying astrong foundation of missing multi-lingual platform in Mizoram, ensuring to work towards creating Mizo Fibre Grid Network to take fibre optic connectivity to each and every nook and corner of Mizoram. Apart from this, Amit Sharma has also contributed tremendously to boost-up Cooperative Sector in the state of Mizoram in ongoing International Year of Cooperation 2025, as declared by United Nations, till recent times wherein Amit revived the Cooperative culture in the state and pushing for NCDC, NABARD and mutilple funding channels towards revival of Mizo Cooperative Societies including a special push for Common Service Centres under MPACS model. Prior to this, he served multiple departments in UT of Ladakh in his capacity as Administrative Secretary of IT, Transport, Rural Development, Disaster Management and Science & Technology, wherein he pushed towards making Ladakh as the first carbon neutral region of Bharat, as envisioned by Prime Minister, through the introduction of five Hydrogen-fuel cell buses on the roads of the UT and also, EV load carriers there.
Apart from this, he held an additional charge of MD, Sindhu Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDCO), the only PSU Corporation of Ladakh to push Ladakh towards multiple reforms through it. Before this, Amit made an immense contribution while being Secretary Mining J&K which cannot be forgotten through his special initiative of pushing GSI towards discovery of 5.9 Million Tonnes of Lithium in Reasi district, which has happened first time ever in the history of Bharat. Amit also introduced maiden concept of e-Challans for mining of minor minerals in the UT of J&K to ensure total transparency and accountability while conducting mining activities in the UT.
As the then IT Secretary and CEO, J&K e-Governance Agency, Amit Sharma ensured smooth implementation of e-Office in J&K, worked towards expanding the base of e-Services to highest level in Bharat and even, making State Data Centre fully functional both regions of the UT, apart from taking several other key initiatives in IT domain like 100% Digitisation of Land Records, automation of working of several departments, etc.
Now, when Amit Sharma is coming back in J&K, after gaining a great experience of serving out of state in multiple regions of Bharat, it is expected that he shall ensure successful implementation of Census Activity all across the UTs of J&K and Ladakh, which is being done through the vast usage of technology first-time ever, being a ‘Digital Census’ which shall be matter of pride and honour, being som of the soil. It is notably mentioned that Census all-across the Bharat is a much awaited activity these days which lays a strong foundation of socio-economic growth, after multiple delays of about one and half decades, as last Census was conducted in India long back in 2011 and lot has changed in terms of demography, economy and development since then !
