At least 25 people charred to death after a private travel bus caught fire

Chinnatekuru, Oct 24: At least 25 people believed to be charred to death after a private travel bus caught fire in near Chinnatekuru Kurnool early Friday.

The Kaveri Travels bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru when the tragedy occurred near Chinnatekur village.

According to police, the accident took place around 1.30 am when a speeding motorcycle rammed into the rear of the moving bus. The bike went under the vehicle, hitting the fuel tank, which immediately caught fire.

The flames spread rapidly, engulfing the entire bus within minutes.Several passengers trapped inside the burning bus.The bus was carrying 42 passengers. While 12 managed to escape, at least 25 were burnt alive.

The remaining victims sustained serious burns and were rushed to Kurnool Government General Hospital.

Police said most of the passengers were residents of Hyderabad. Fire tenders and police teams reached the spot soon after being alerted and launched rescue operations.

The vehicle was completely gutted. Authorities are trying to identify the victims. A case has been registered, and investigations are under way.
